The 2016 United Way “Good Neighbor Radio Auction” on 95.9 WRJB ended on Friday October 21 with a final total of $67,000. This exceeded last year’s auction by about $4,000. The Radio Auction is a 3-week event to raise much needed funds for 18 non-profit agencies in Benton County. Those agencies are: Wee Care Day Care Center, Benton County 4-H, Boy Scouts of America-West Tennessee Area Council, Ministerial Alliance of Benton County, Benton County Toys for Tots, Tn Rehabilitation Center, Benton County Program, Bi Sandy Senior Citizen Center,Benton County Track and Field, Carey Counseling Center-Camden Group Home, Benton County Rescue Squad, Benton County Senior Center, Big Sandy VFD, Chalk Level/Divider VFD, Women’s Resource & Rape Assistance Program, Eva/Rushings Creek VFD, FYI Clinic, Holladay/McIllwain VFD.

The Good Neighbor Radio Auction is the number one fund raiser for United Way in Benton County. The GNRA has grown from a modest $5,000 raised some 20 years ago at the Senior Citizens Center to what it is today. The GNRA is conducted completely by volunteers under the direction of Laura Markham and the United Way Board of Directors and many volunteers.

Our thanks to all of the auctioneers made up of local business people, churches, city and county office holders, attorneys, teachers and civic leaders…..organizations that furnished daily meals…..and all of the daily listeners who called in to bid on items.
