The Kentucky State Police and the Benton County Sheriff’s Office are requesting the public’s assistance in the death investigation of Daniel Couger, 72, of Big sandy.
Couger launched his boat in Sulphur Creek in Benton County on Friday June 28 at approximately 3:30pm. When he did not return home that evening his family called law enforcement to report him missing.
On Saturday June 29, Couger’s boat was discovered on Kentucky Lake near Sugar Creek in Kentucky. His body was recovered from Kentucky Lake, near Sugar Creek, on June 30. Preliminary autopsy results showed that Couger had a single gunshot wound to the head. The official cause of death has not been released.
