TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL APPREHENDS SOUTH CAROLINA MAN

NASHVILLE— The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) apprehended a South Carolina man wanted for larceny and for being a fugitive from justice on Friday morning in Williamson County. Jason Carter, 39, of Columbia, S.C. escaped a mental institution in South Carolina at approximately 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 2. It appears he stole a van from the Craft Farrow State Hospital (S.C.) and later purchased a Chevrolet Lumina.

VETERAN DESIGNATION ON DRIVERS LICENSES, STATE IDS

Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons and Department of Veterans Affairs Commissioner Mary-Bears Grinder announced that honorably discharged veterans may now visit any drivers services center in the state to obtain a specially designated veteran driver license or photo identification card. Legislation authorizing the state to publicly recognize veterans’ military service was passed in 2011. The veteran designation could not be offered, however, until the latest redesign of drivers licenses and photo ID cards. A newly designed card and a new process called “central issuance,” in which driver licenses and photo ID cards are mailed ti citizens from a central location, are now being used in all driver service centers.

GOVERNOR HASLAM TOURS JONES PLASTIC IN CAMDEN

Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam made a visit to Benton County stopping by Jones Plastics in Camden for a tour of the Plant. With the help of the Benton County Industrial Association, Jones has received an economic development grant that has enabled them to expand their plant and more importantly, add more jobs.
