Second Man with Benton County Ties Wounded in Las Vegas Massacre Shooting

A second man with Benton County ties was wounded in the Las Vegas Massacre Shooting at a music festival Sunday night. Facebook reports Jason McMillan, whose father Mike McMillan lives in Big Sandy, was shot twice in the chest and is in critical condition at a Las Vegas hospital. WENK reports that Mike McMillan was attending one of the Prayer Vigils for Sonny Melton, who was killed in the same shooting, before he even knew that his son Jason was injured in what is said to be the largest mass shooting in United States history. Mike McMillan flew out to Las Vegas to be with his son Jason at the hospital Tuesday.

Sonny Melton Prayer Vigil in Big Sandy

Two Community Prayer Vigils to remember the life of Sonny Melton were held in Big Sandy on Monday afternoon and evening. Melton was one of the victims of the Sunday Night Mass Shooting in Las Vegas, and he graduated from Big Sandy High School. Melton was a nurse at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. There were several speakers at both vigils on Monday who talked about their remembrances of Sonny Melton and what a caring and loving person he was to everyone he came in contact with.

Benton Countian Killed in Las Vegas Massacre Shooting at Music Festival

A Benton County man has died in the Las Vegas Massacre Shooting at a Music Festival. 29-year-old Sonny Melton of Paris was one of fifty people that died while Jason Aldean performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Sonny Melton was with his wife Dr. Heather Gulish Melton at the time of the shooting. WZTV in Nashville is reporting that Sonny Melton died while trying to save his wife.

HOLLY BOBO CASE TO TRIED IN ANOTHER COUNTY

DECATUR COUNTY, Tenn. — The pink and green ribbons surrounding the Decatur County Courthouse are the reasons a judge says the men accused in the death of Holly Bobo will not be tried in Decatur County. Holly Bobo status hearing “I don’t know if you call it a movement or whatever it is — ‘Justice for Holly Bobo’ — that’s what those pink and green ribbons represent,” Jason Autry’s Attorney Michael Scholl said.

TDEC INVESTIGATES ALLEGED DUMPING ON HWY. 641

The Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation has been investigating the alleged lachate dumping incident reported at a location off HWY 641 approximately 3,000 feet south of the Camden City limits. Preliminary sampling efforts have indicated no immediate threat to human health. In a letter to Benton County Sheriff Kenny Christopher from Rudy Collins, Regional Director for External Affairs with the Jackson Environmental Field Office, “the focus at this point is evaluating if there are any groundwater or surface water impacts.
