Benton County Among Top Five Highest Unemployed Counties in State

Benton County is now among the top five highest counties in the state for unemployment. Despite a slight decrease in unemployment in the latest findings, Benton County ranks 4th in Tennessee for highest unemployment numbers. Unemployment in Benton County for December was 5.1 percent as unemployment decreased 0.1 percent from 5.2 percent in November. There are currently 6,320 employed Benton Countians compared to 340 unemployed residents.

Unemployment in Benton County Decreases For November

Benton County saw a significant decrease in unemployment for the month of November. Unemployment in Benton County was 4.2 percent in November with a 0.9 percent decrease from October. There are currently 290 unemployed Benton Countians compared to 6,520 workers inside the county. There was also a decrease in unemployment for all surrounding counties in Middle and West Tennessee.

Benton County Schools Out For Christmas Break

Benton County Schools are in class for the final day of the year today. Students and teachers at Camden, Big Sandy, and Holladay will be at school for a half day as classes dismiss for the semester at 11 AM. As a result of the half day at Benton County Schools, buses will run early at 11 this morning. Christmas Break officially begins when the half day ends and this will run until January 2nd for students and January 1st for teachers and administrators. Benton County students will return to class for the first day of school in 2019 on Thursday January 3rd. Meanwhile, Henry County schools also dismiss today. Carroll County students are already on Christmas Break, and Humphreys County Schools will be in class until this Friday.

Today is Final Day of School This Year in Carroll County

Today is the final day of school in Carroll County before Christmas Break begins. At Hollow Rock-Bruceton and other Carroll County schools today, classes will dismiss for the semester at 11 for a half day. Carroll County students will return to class in 2019 on Thursday January 3rd. Meanwhile in Benton County, midterm exams begin today at schools in Camden, Big Sandy, and Holladay, as students will continue to take end of semester exams through Wednesday. Just like in Carroll County, the final day of the semester this Wednesday December 19th in Benton County will be a half day with buses running at 11 AM. The 1st day of classes in 2019 for Benton County will also be Thursday January 3rd.

Benton County Among Top Ten Highest Unemployed Counties

Benton County is now in the top ten among counties with the highest unemployment in the state. Despite this, unemployment in Benton County only increased by 0.1 percent to 5.1 percent for the month of October from 5 percent in September. There are currently 350 unemployed residents in Benton County with 6,510 employed members of the workforce. Neighboring Carroll County also ranked in the top ten for highest unemployment with a 0.3 percent increase in unemployment to 5.4 percent in October as opposed to 5.1 percent for September. Henry County also saw a trend of increasing unemployment with a 0.4 percent increase to 4.7 percent in October from 4.3 back in September. Humphreys County was the only local county that didn’t have an increase in unemployment as its numbers stayed steady with 4 percent unemployment in October and September.
