BENTON COUNTY COMMISSION MEETS

THE BENTON COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS MET IN REGULAR SESSION ON FEB.26TH FOR THEIR FEBRUARY MEETING. THE COMMISSION VOTED DOWN A RESOLUTION TO RETURN A PIECE OF LAND TO JAMES PEACH THAT IS THE SITE OF THE 1963 PLANE CRASH THAT TOOK THE LIVES OF COUNTRY MUSIC STARS PATSY CLINE, HAWKSHAW HAWKINS, COWBOY COPAS AND RANDY HUGHES. PEACH HAD DONATED THE LAND SEVERAL YEARS AGO TO THE COUNTY. IN THAT THE SITE HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED, THERE WAS A MOVEMENT TO HAVE THE LAND GIVEN BACK TO PEACH. THE PROPERTY IN QUESTION IS APPROXIMATELY 7 ACRES.

RESOLUTIONS APPROVED WERE: TO PAY INVOICES FOR THE COUNTY CORONER AND MEDICAL EXAMINER…TO AUTHORIZE THE COUNTY LIBRARIAN TO APPLY FOR GRANTS THAT WOULD NOT REQUIRE ANY COMMITTMENT FROM THE COUNTY…TO BUDGET FUNDS RECEIVED BY THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, FUNDS RECEIVED BY THE ANIMAL SHELTER FOR ADOPTION FEES, FUNDS RECEIVED BY THE LIBRARY AND SENIOR CENTER…A RESOLUTION TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE COUNTY MAYOR FOR COMMUNICATIONS AND FOR THE COUNTY CORONER/MEDICAL EXAMINER-PER DIEM AND FEES FAILED…A RESOILUTION TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS FOR THE SENIOR CITIZENS ASSISTANCE-STATE RETIREMENT PASSED.

THE NEXT MEETING OF THE COUNTY COMMISSION WILL BE ON MARCH 18TH.
