WEEKEND SET FOR TRIBUTE TO COUNTRY MUSIC GREATS

BENTON COUNTY IS GEARING UP FOR A BIG EVENT, THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OBSERVANCE OF THE 1963 PLANE CRASH THAT TOOK THE LIVES OF COUNTRY MUSIC GREATS PATSY CLINE, HAWKSHAW HAWKINS, COWBOY COPAS AND RANDY HUGHES. THE THREE-DAY EVENT WILL BEGIN ON THURSDAY FEB. 28TH AT THE NEW BEGINNINGS ANNEX BUILDING AT 138 COLLEGE IN CAMDEN. DAVID BROWNING AS THE MAYBERRY DEPUTY WILL KICK OFF THE FIRST EVENING AT 6PM FOLLOWED BY THE GRASCALS AT 7PM.

ON FRIDAY THERE WILL BE A PANEL DISCUSSION MODERATED BY CHRIS TATUM.. GUEST PANELISTS WILL BE BILL ANDERSON, ROBERT K. OBERMANN, CHRISSY LYNN, CATHY COPAS, JEAN SHEPHERD, HAWKSHAW HAWKINS JR. AND BRIAN MANSFIELD. AFTER THE DISCUSSION THE BILL ANDERSON TRIO WILL PERFORM.

THERE WILL BE AN OPENING CEREMONY ON THE COURT SQUARE ON SATURDAY MORNING AT 10AM. FOR THE OPENING CEREMONY MACKENZIE BAWCUM, DAUGHTER OF DANNY AND DANA BAWCUM, WILL PERFORM THE NATIONAL ANTHEM, FOLLOWED BY A FLYOVER BY THE WARBIRDS. AVERY TOWNSEND WILL THEN PERFORM A COUPLE OF PATSY CLINE SONGS.

AFTER THE CEREMONY ON THE SQUARE, LOCAL TALENT WILL BEGIN PERFORMING AT THE ANNEX AT 1PM. PERFORMERS WILL INCLUDE RYAN HOLLADAY, TYLER WARREN, JIMMY STEWART AND OTHERS.

AT 3PM MANDY BARNETT WILL PERFORM, FOLLOWED BY A CANDLELIGHT VIGIL AT 5PM. BARNETT PORTRAYED CLINE FOR SEVERAL YEARS IN “ALWWAYS PATSY CLINE,” A MUSICAL BASED ON THE LIFE OF CLINE.

ALSO ON SATURDAY THERE WILL BE A REPLICA OF THE PLANE ON DISPLAY AT THE BENTON COUNTY AIRPORT. A PORTION OF THE ACTUAL PLANE, ALONG WITH OTHER MEMORABILIA, WILL BE ON DISPLAY AT THE ROCKMAN MUSEUNM LOCATED AT THE CORNER OF HWY, 641 N. AND SANDY RIVER ROAD.

ALL ARE IN VITED TO ATTEND THIS EVENT THAT WILL PAY TRIBUTE TO THE LEGACY OF CLINE, HAWKINS, COPAS AND HUGHES. TICKETS ARE STILL AVAILABLE FOR THE ENTIRE EVENT.
